Apollo’s Fire

Details

“Under the inspired leadership of Jeannette Sorrell, Apollo’s Fire has become one of the pre-eminent period-instrument ensembles, causing one to hear baroque material anew.” ‐ THE INDEPENDENT, London

PROGRAM:
VIRTUOSO BACH & VIVALDI

FULL PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

APOLLO’S FIRE | The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra
Jeannette Sorrell, conductor/harpsichord

Praised for its “joyous spontaneity” (The New Yorker) and “superlative music-making” (Daily Telegraph, London), Apollo’s Fire and their award-winning conductor Jeannette Sorrell have played sold-out concerts from Carnegie Hall to the BBC Proms to the Royal Theatre of Madrid. Apollo’s Fire brings their distinctive take on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons by presenting these gems as the revolutionary creations of musical storytelling they were meant to be- illustrating the Naturalistic affects along the way, so that Vivaldi’s pictorial descriptions come to life. If you thought you knew The Four Seasons, be prepared for new discoveries! The program also includes Vivaldi’s stormy Concerto for Two Cellos a piece showing why Sorrell calls Vivaldi the “rock n’ roll composer of the 18th century.”
