He has worked with the likes of Gary Barlow, Mariah Carey, Cliff Richard, Jeff Wayne and Joss Stone and spent 25 years touring the globe with The Moody Blues.
And next month (OCTOBER 17), world famous drummer, Gordy Marshall, is bringing his own band – GO NOW! – to the public with an incredible, innovative one-off show to bring back the magical experience of live music to fans in this time of Covid-19.
Gordy, who is based in London, says: “We are living through very strange and worrying times and never has live music been more important because it brings people together and just lifts everyone’s spirits.
“But theatres are closed, musicians cannot perform live which is heart-breaking to me as I’ve spent my whole life on a stage working with some of the most truly great performers. I didn’t want to sit back and do nothing, I wanted to do something different to remind everyone how wonderful that shared experience of a live concert is.
“We got the band together at a beautiful venue, the Harlequin Theatre in Reigate and played the best gig of our lives. Then we worked with incredible technicians so that if people at home want to join in and have some fun, it will be super special. They won’t feel they have front row seats; they’ll feel like they are on stage with the band.”
Nottingham-born Gordy, who started out his career aged 14 in the working men’s clubs around the Midlands and North of England, hand-picked his closest musician friends to perform in The Moody Blues covers band, GO NOW!
They include former 10cc lead singer, Mick Wilson, Malcom Moore who has played with Robbie Williams and James Blunt and guitarist Tim Maple who is also the musical director for the X Factor’s Live shows.
Gordy, who was once described by superstar Justin Hayward as “the best thing to happen to the Moody Blues,” says: “These guys are all proper old school musicians who have been performing all their lives. Music to us is as essential as oxygen. We had a tour booked all-round the US and the UK before Covid-19 changed everything. But none of us want live music or great live music venues like theatres to disappear – there are so many reasons why we really want people to get behind this and click on to come and see our show.”
A third of all profits will go to more than 20 regional theatres throughout the US.
Concert will be Streamed Live from the Harlequin Theatre, London.
Saturday, October 17th – at 1pm MST. Available to view on demand, at no additional charge, for two weeks.
