Musical America’s 2020 Ensemble of the Year, the Danish String Quartet is acclaimed for its “intense blend, perfect intonation, and constant vitality and flow” (Gramophone). This fascinating program pairs Schubert’s massive, masterful string quartet with a new tribute work — its doppelgänger – filled with lush harmonies and surreal effects, and closes with the quartet’s own arrangement of Schubert’s eerily emotional song written in the final year of his all-too-brief life.
