Details

This evenings program:

DEBUSSY: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
BEETHOVEN: Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major
SIBELIUS: Symphony No.2 in D minor

Eun Sun Kim, Music Director of the San Francisco Opera, is the first woman to serve as music director of one of America’s largest opera companies. In her Colorado Symphony debut, Kim leads the orchestra through Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto, one of the composer’s most youthful and vibrant compositions, featuring a sublime musical conversation between Kim, the orchestra, and soloist Inon Barnatan. The flute’s gentle siren call, solitary and alluring, beckons listeners into the sensuous dreamscape of Claude Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, a spellbinding opening to a weekend of orchestral beauty.

“A major star… Kim led the performance with great sensitivity and flexibility.” – The New York Times

“One of the most admired pianists of his generation” (New York Times), Inon Barnatan has received universal acclaim for his “uncommon sensitivity” (The New Yorker), “impeccable musicality and phrasing” (Le Figaro), and his stature as “a true poet of the keyboard: refined, searching, unfailingly communicative” (The Evening Standard). A multifaceted musician, Barnatan is equally celebrated as soloist, curator and collaborator.
