As one of today’s most celebrated comedic talents, Colin Jost will bring his wit and charm to the Vilar Performing Arts Center for an evening of laughter and entertainment that promises to delight audiences on Friday, August 23 at 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. Jost will join a long lineup of comedians who have frequented the VPAC stage over the years including Jay Leno, Howie Mandel, Lewis Black, Robin Williams, Jim Gaffigan, and fellow Saturday Night Live alumni David Spade and Kevin Nealon.
Best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, Colin Jost is a well-known American comedian, writer, actor and author. Throughout his career, he has won five Writers Guild Awards and two Peabody Awards. Just for his writing on SNL, he has been nominated for 14 Emmy Awards.
Jost started writing for SNL in 2005, but it didn’t stop there. Since 2014, he has been the co-anchor of the show’s “Weekend Update”. There have been special editions of the “Weekend Update” that aired during the 2016 Republican and Democratic National Conventions and in 2017 the primetime “Weekend Update Summer Edition”.
Originally from Staten Island, New York, it has often shaped his work. In 2015 Jost wrote “Staten Island Summer”, a coming-of-age comedy based on his days as a lifeguard, released by Paramount Pictures.
Besides performing on stage, Jost also has experience on the big screen. In 2016, Colin Jost took on a supporting role in the Warner Bros. film “How to Be Single.” He has since appeared in Paramount’s “Coming 2 America” and starred in Warner Bros.’ live-action animation film “Tom & Jerry.” Collaborating with his brother Casey Jost, Colin co-wrote an upcoming “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie for Paramount. But there is more to come as he is set to star in the upcoming wedding comedy “Worst Man.”
As a writer, Jost has been published multiple times in The New Yorker and has contributed to the New York Times Magazine and the Huffington Post, amongst others. In July 2020, Jost debuted his memoir, “A Very Punchable Face.” The memoir is a series of essays, which documents pivotal moments in Jost’s life including growing up in Staten Island in a family of firefighters, commuting three hours a day to high school, attending Harvard while Facebook was created, and more. For every accomplishment and absurd moment, there is an honest, emotional one, told with a healthy dose of self-deprecation.
