THIS EVENINGS PROGRAM:
We announce a slight change to the evening’s program. Our Beaver Creek audience will enjoy a special preview of Carpenter’s program for the NY Phil, which he will perform in David Geffen hall on February 7th, just days after his VPAC debut. The night will feature two showpieces for virtuosic keyboardists: Bach’s Goldberg Variations, followed by Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. The program will run approximately 90 minutes with a brief intermission in between pieces.
J.S. Bach / Arr. Cameron Carpenter – Goldberg Variations
J.S. Bach / Prelude and Fugue in E-flat Major ‘St. Anne’, BWV 552
Musorgsky / Arr. Cameron Carpenter – Pictures at an Exhibition
“Extravagantly talented… the audience’s response was raucous… everything he touches turns fantastical and memorable.” — THE NEW YORK TIMES
Cameron Carpenter is the world’s most visible organist, the first ever to be nominated for a GRAMMY Award for a solo album. He holds the 2012 Leonard Bernstein Award, and in 2014, launched his International Touring Organ (ITO)- a first-of-its kind digital organ built to his own design. He is a virtuoso composer/performer who is smashing the stereotypes of organ and classical music. Cameron’s latest album, recorded at the Berlin Konzerthaus includes his own rendition of Bach’s Goldberg Variations as well as Hanson’s Symphony #2, and was released by Universal / DECCA in the fall of 2021. One of his previous releases, ‘All You Need is Bach’ debuted at #1 on the traditional classical charts.
With the help of VPAC’s new 4K projector, we’ll have “a closer look” at the organ on February 4th as Cameron Carpenter performs a program of gargantuan works written for piano – of which Carpenter has personally penned arrangements for organ – the audience will enjoy a real-time HD video projection of his fingers at work, as they command a dizzying combination of 198 organ stops, 108 keys, and 32 foot pedals.
Experience a one-of-a-kind aural and visual experience as Cameron Carpenter fills the VPAC in a show where you’ve never seen or heard anything like this before!
“Carpenter is one of the rare musicians who changes the game of his instrument… He is a smasher of cultural and classical music taboos. He is technically the most accomplished organist I have ever witnessed… And, most important of all, the most musical.”— THE LOS ANGELES TIMES
“Carpenter played in the Philharmonie and what he did there was so disconcerting that it could probably only be compared to what Liszt must have evoked 170 years ago.” — BERLINER ZEITUNG
