Rising Stars of the Opera offers a rare opportunity to experience remarkable young artists on the cusp of extraordinary careers. Watch these exciting young artists bring opera to life by presenting excerpts from world-class productions. Rising Stars of the Opera makes opera first accessible, then thrilling, to students.
The Richard Tucker Music Foundation is America’s preeminent opera foundation, and will present four young singers who have been recognized as among the leading opera singers of the next generation. Featuring some of opera’s most beloved arias, duets and ensembles by renowned composers, these superb artists will bring their magnificent voices to the stage.
Founded in 1975 following the death of Americas greatest tenor, Brooklyn-born Richard Tucker, the Richard Tucker Music Foundation has given more than $2 million to American opera singers through its awards program, nurturing them into the stars of tomorrow. The Tucker Foundation supports these artists through performance opportunities and presents community opera concerts and its celebrated annual Gala at Carnegie Hall. This promises to be an event of great singers and great singing.
The featured singers are all recent Sara Tucker Study Grant winners from the Tucker Foundation, soprano Vanessa Vasquez (currently at the Academy of Vocal Arts on Philadelphia,) mezzo Megan Mikailovna Samarin (in the Houston Young Artist Program), Tenor Alex McKissick (in the Washington Opera Young Artist program) and baritone Sean Michael Plumb (member of the Bavarian State Opera Company). This evening will feature pianist Brian Zeger.
The STARS series is underwritten by Pat and Pete Frechette and supported in part by funding from United Way of Eagle River Valley. Additional support provided by Anonymous, Eagle Valley Community Fund, Susan & Harry Frampton, the Forrest & Frances Lattner Foundation, The Precourt Foundation, Ann Smead & Michael Byram, the Vilar Guild and the Soros Charitable Fund.
