Support the Arts Reaching Students

For over 25 years, VPAC’s Support the Arts Reaching Students (STARS) program has provided youth from 15 Eagle County Schools with the opportunity to attend specially programmed daytime performances either in the theater or directly at their school. Reaching over 8,000 students annually, with approximately 20 shows a year, STARS places an emphasis on providing an array of performing art genres from dance and theater to world music. The programming is educational, entertaining, often integrates with teachers’ lesson plans and sometimes provides a platform for discussion of pertinent childhood issues such as bullying, cultural awareness or how to deal with challenging homework. STARS provides the basis for a life of enjoyment and understanding of diverse performing art disciplines, often for youth who would not otherwise have the opportunity. All STARS performances and transportation are provided free of charge to Eagle County students in grades K-8. STARS is funded by individual contributors and a generous endowment from the Frechette Family Foundation.
