ABOUT JOHNNY SCHLEPER: Johnny Schleper was born and raised in the Vail Valley and got into music at age 15 when his dad got him a guitar. On top of his solo acts, Schleper also helps create a buzz in the Vail music scene joining other musicians and bands. His regular shows are at The Red Lion, but he also performs at Vail Ale House with Schlep N Wolf once a month and at Shakedown with Town Cavalry. “I think what really motivates me is to see people singing along,” he said. “I like to mix it up — classic rock, reggae, blues, county and all that good stuff.”  Learn more at: www.facebook.com/JohnnySchleperMusic

ABOUT THE SERIES: There all sorts of traditions and superstitions in theater such as not bringing mirrors on stage, no whistling from backstage, using “break a leg” instead of wishing a performer “good luck” and never mentioning The Scottish Play! Another is to make sure to turn on an exposed incandescent bulb centerstage known as “the ghost light”, before turning off other lights and vacating the theater. I like to think of it as providing an eternal flame that remains on between shows, providing a baseline of energy that allows us looking forward to the next wave of entertainment. Of course there is also the practical safety side to this which avoids accidents when entering a darkened theater but legend also has it that it is there to ward off mischievous spirits. Whether it’s for safety or ghosts, it certainly is comforting to enter a lit space and avoid us turning into freshly-minted theater ghosts ourselves!

As we patiently await the passing of the current pandemic and figure out how to safely resume operations at our beloved Vilar Performing Arts Center, we feel our duty to fulfill the role of the “ghost light” in our community providing a flow of energy during these uncertain, in-between times. As such we’re introducing “The Ghost Light Sessions” which will allow artists from our region to live-stream performances to wherever you are, direct from our stage. Kicking off the series is a FREE live-stream from The Runaway Grooms who will perform at 7pm on May 7th. If you’re like us, you’re probably bursting for some live entertainment to resume and allow us to reconnect as a community! We also hope it provides our local artists a platform to thrive during these difficult times and encourage you to contribute to their virtual tip-jar as a means to show your support. With enough participation and support we hope to continue this series until we can once again welcome you through our doors and we thank you in advance for spreading the word and supporting this new effort.
